I am an award winning amateur photographer who has been interested in photography for over sixty years. My interests are in land/seascapes, rural pioneering images and nature photography, although I am willing to “have a go” at all genre. I have recently ventured into the realm of sports photography, in which I am slowly improving and enjoying the new genre.
I have shot with both 35mm film and digital cameras, but now shoot almost exclusively in digital.
My main camera is a Canon 760D with four Canon, two Tamron and two Sigma lens of various sizes. The Canon 60D and 10D are among my other cameras I have the usual array of filters, close-up lenses, bellows and Canon Speedlite Electronic flash units. I use a Manfrotto tripod and head.
I am, or have been, a member of several camera clubs and have won numerous awards including a number of annual “Top Shot” and Image of the Year” awards within these clubs.
Many of my images have received Acceptances at both National and International competitions.
In 2011, my image – “Protea” received an individual Merit in the George W Glennie Memorial Nature Salon International Competition.
In both 2009 and 2010 I won the APPS “Norman James-Martin” trophy for the best commercial print of the year and also in 2009 the “Perce Dangar Memorial Trophy for the overall “Top Shot” of the year.
In 2013, I was 1st Runner Up in “mEye” World Photographic Competition. This competition was an initiative of Macular Disease Foundation Australia to raise awareness of macular disease in the community.
I have also received excellent results in local competitions. In the 2003 Campbelltown “Quota Club” Photographic competition, my image, “SUNSET” was awarded Grand Champion. In the same competition, another of my images, “HISTORIC BUILDING” was awarded 1st place in the Colour category. In the 2009 Castle Hill Show, my image “BLACK AND WHITE LILY” was awarded 1st Place in the monochrome section, “PROTEA” was awarded 2nd Place in the colour section and my “FRINGED LILY” received an Highly Commended Award in that same section.
“The images that I enter in exhibitions and competitions are ones that I like …. if someone else likes them too, then that is a bonus”.
I am a retired Engineering Manager and combine my love of photography with my other passions of touring, camping and four wheel driving. Since my retirement I have enjoyed the extra time that I can now spend on these interests. I live in western Sydney and loves to escape to the bush whenever I can. A natural extension of my interests in photography and computers has led me into the internet as webmaster for several organisation of which I am a member.
